DevaCurl B’Leave In…I Do Not Believe in You.

So, I have been trying out a ridiculous amount of products to deal with my unruly head of hair, from conditioners, to leave-in conditioners, to deep conditioners, to gels, to creams, to butters….you get the picture. For the most part, I have been using Kinky Curly Knot Today (which I shall review later) as my leave-in but on an impulse trip to Ulta, I went a little DevaCurl crazy. And why not?? It was buy two, get one free (AND I had a coupon–nom!!!)! We all know this WildChild loves a deal! One of the items I decided on was the DevaCurl B’Leave In, their leave-in conditioner. Hmmmm, a clear leave-in…I should have known better.

I checked out the reviews on Naturally Curly, which were pretty mixed, so I decided to give the stuff a try. After doing my CO wash, I dried my hair with a t-shirt and added the B’Leave In. This was at night, thank goodness. Okay, I will say that it smelled good…but when I  put it in my hair, it was sort of slimy and cold. I have realized that cold products usually mean alcohol or something of the like, which mean drying. Yea thanks. I actually mixed it with some KCKT because I was already suspicious…but I added it, scrunched a little, wrapped my head in a satin scarf (I was going to restyle my hair in the AM so I didn’t really care what the end product was) and went to WildChild dreamland.

Fast forward to the morning–Yes, my hair was still wet, but it felt nasty, like straw. Like, if I pulled it wrong it would snap off. It wasn’t hard or anything…just…icky…tangled. Sorry, icky is the best word I can use to describe it. I immediately got into the shower and conditioned my hair again and washed that crap out before I was ready to go for the day. DevaCurl makes some pretty good products (I’m still trying them out, if my opinion changes, I’ll let you know), but this one was straight trash. I mean, come on. Who makes a leave-in conditioner that DRIES out your hair? Let’s look at the ingredients:

IngredientsAqueous Extracts of: Achilea Millefolium, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria), Cymbopogon Schoenanthus, Humulus Lupulus (Hops), Melissa Officinalis (Balm Mint), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary), Glycerin, PEG-8, Propylene Glycol, PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Polyquaternium-10, Sodium Polyacrylate, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Methyldibroma Glutaronitrile, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance.

Honestly, I don’t even know what 95% of this stuff is, but I do know that my hair does not like it. Wait, aren’t hops in beer? Giggle, maybe that’s why I bought it. Anyway, I’m glad Ulta has a great return policy, because this stuff went back the very next day. I exchanged it for a bottle of Set It Free moisture lock. We’ll see how that one works out, but at least it smells like skittles!!!
