Is your hair wet or dry? I’ve tried twistouts twice (inlcuding last night) once wet and last night was dry. My wet twists were hideous because my hair literally shrank from about 8 inches to 2 or 3! It was a hot friggin mess! So last night I tried on dry hair. It didn’t turn out so well but I think I was too shy with product. I used sheamoisture smoothie and a little bit of eco olive oil for hold. I’m thinking of trying again with more product and/or a tiny bit of water for more definition. It was huge this morning when took my twists down…not cute big hair huge but giant friggin afro with random waves huge! I’m sure I didn’t do the best job of separated the twists either so I will be watching that video next 🙂
I cannot wait until my hair gets like your length. I just did my second twist-out last night & it’s taking me over 2 hours to do (my hair is more than 4 inches). People keep telling me that when your hair is longer, twist-outs become easier.
How long did it take for your hair to get that length?
Hi Ev’Yan! I love it when you stop by! 🙂 Mine took an hour and a half, so I’m almost as bad as you! When my hair was shorter it took me FOUR hours! I tried like, twice, and quit that initiative! I’ve been natural for 14 months. I can’t wait to get more length and hopefully decrease twisting/braiding time even more.
must be something in the water… i did twists last night too. i worked with my Hair Dew and some home made FSG. i don’t hate the results, but i’m sticking to wash and gos.
I’m in the same boat – I like the look of my wash n go much better, but at the same time I like how doing twists then wearing a twist out really cuts down on tangling since your hair isn’t shrinking around itself. I wish there was a way to minimize tangles with a wash n go…hmm…
i’m working on that too… the only thing i came up with was to detangle every four days instead of once a week. i tried it and it works, but in general i’m lazy and even that was too much work for me, even though it cuts down on detangling time. i’m going to get a trim… that should a lot too.
it’s actually kinda scary how much our hair looks alike.
See my hair tangles more at the roots because I am so half assed with applying products that I miss a LOT of sections. Maybe I can try to do smaller sections to ensure the product is distributed, then stretch my wash n go, or try to band it so the hair isn’t shrinking as much.
yeah, me too. my roots don’t get a lot of love… i even found a huge knot near my roots because my wide tooth comb was being lazy, so i switched to paddle brushing. i’m gonna keep up with paddle brushing every four days and give you an update. but i ain’t doing smaller sections. no dahlin!

It was wet but I didn’t spray water on my hair continuously to make it soaking wet. I just added product.
