Natural Selection, Shea Moisture, and Mahogany Hair Revolution are Winning.

Yesterday, I was faced with a dilemma…should I get off my lazy ass and go to the Natural Selection meet up (sponsored by Shea Moisture), or…take a nap? Then, Cass hit me up to tell me that one of her hair models couldn’t make it, and asked me to fill in….wooooosh….let someone touch Izzy? I dunno about this… Well, I decided to do it, and I am oh so glad I did!

Everyone was ridiculously nice (and I finally got to meet Cass!) and we talked hair all night…while drinking champagne. Did I mention there was champagne? And let me tell you…my stylist, Summer, was the bee’s knees! I was so scared after hearing so many funky experiences people have had in salons, but she was great. My hair took FOREVER to do (I think we ended up leaving at like 1am), but I love it!!

My scalp is a little sore today but the braids aren’t too tight at all…I’m just not used to having my hair braided. I will definitely go back next time I need to get my hair did! Oh, and there was a Shea Moisture African Black Soap conditioner (not the Purification Masque) that Summer used on me that I haven’t seen in the store yet, and it’s not on the Walgreens site. I. WANT. IT!

Update: Thanks to tayecox, I found the condish at Target. I was confused because they keep splitting the lines up between Tarjay and Walgreens. It annoys me to the high heavens, but at least I got my stuff!

LOOOOOOOVE IT! This style looks so official on you!
You may just be my hair inspiration 🙂

I started using the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie since my BC because it was on the ground and Walgreen’s is right up the street. I am using it with IC gel which can also be purchased at Walgreen’s and been having good hair days ever since. I am anxious to try this new condish since I am having such good luck with the custard. I have tried the kinky-kurly leave-in from Target but haven’t had any luck. It seems to separate my curls more than I like and makes it look more like an afro instead of usual curls

your hair looks good! was it blow dried or straightened before braiding or braided from your normal style?

    • HB says:

I think she blow dried some parts so it was easier to braid but not my whole head. She asked me if I wanted her to blow it out so I could see more of my length but I asked for as little heat as possible.

makes sense. it looks good. i’d love to know how long it lasts. i had french braids that got a bit fuzzy and flat after just a couple of days and went i took them down there really wasn’t a style but my hair was stretched if i wanted to do another style it would have been easier i guess.

Your hair is the S***T! Seriously Summer knows what she is doing. Can do some hair!!! This style is not only elegant, sexy and edgy but it certainly fits you Elle. I hope you are able to wear for awhile. It is so beautiful. I am glad that you took Cass on the invite to be one of her models. You will always have this to share and remember. I love the intricacy in her involvement with the style and creativity. I feel this would be a lovely wedding updo for a bride. Don’t be afraid to let a door open because this was certainly a door worth working in. I do agree and understand with you. We are protective of our hair. I feel this way when I go get a trim. Constantly saying don’t cut more than I expect. I am monitoring my hair very closely with length checks.

Yeah I wanted to tell ya I am in love with that hair style! So So SO gorgeous. 😉

Saw you on BBB’s post. and I am amazed! It’s very unique and fits you well! I am jealous I am not in LA or I’d check that spot out.

Are you going to share this with those who do not follow your blog (shame on them!), like LHCF or NC? You should! You should! Your hair is frickin’ amazing 🙂 Love it!

  9. Anonymous says:

WoooooooW!!! The style is elegant…You look regal without it being over the top like some braid styles can be….It also fits the shape of your face [important, girl] I love it!!!!

LOVE IT!!!!! Love, love, love it! Gotta try doing that!
How long will you keep it in for? And will you use anything on your hair or scapl while you maintain the do? Keep us updated!
    Once again, looks faaabulous! 🙂

    • HB says:

Hopefully I can keep it in for two weeks, but if it starts to look raggedy I’m going to take it out. I’ll probably just use oil spray on it, not sure yet. I’ve never had an updo.

  11. tayecox says:

Your hair is beautiful!!! Target sells the conditioner, not sure if it’s in the store, but it’s definitely on the website.

      • HB says:

Hah! I already got up and went to Walgreens ’cause I left my phone in the car and had to go get it…but I’m trying to get the strength to get back up and take my butt to Tarjay! I’m in my pajamas too and was running around town…who gon’ check me boo?

      • Rou says:

Girl, you’re making me want to go out and buy that conditioner, too! I really don’t need anymore conditioner for another year, but I keep purchasing a new bottle all the time. SMH!!!!

  12. 114Michelle says:

Izzy always looks awesome. Did you get a headache…no, from all the hair manipulation not the champagne? Would like to see a face front photo to gauge the height? How long are you planning to keep it braided?

    • HB says:

A little, but I’m not very tender headed. I’m going to try to keep it braided for two weeks. If I take more pics, I’ll be sure to add them.

  13. TheRYL1 says:

Thay hair is looking good! 😉

Yeah, I will most definitely have to make an appointment with Miss Summer ASAP.

It was a blast standing in the middle of the street, in the middle of the night justa talkin! LOL

    • HB says:

Yea she is great and seems like she knows her stuff too! I had so much fun even though it was cold as hell! How do we live in LA and it’s summer and cold?! I don’t even wanna join my pool! Bollocks, I tell ya.

  14. Kimmie says:

CUTE!!!! I really like that style. And can’t say that I’ve seen it before either. Hopefully next summer I’ll be able to get some cute styles. I’ll have length to make up for what I’m sorely lacking in thickness lol. Even a little past shoulder length, my hair is useless. Oh well!
