Would You Rock This Style?

Be honest! I was playing in my hair WAY too much today – I was twirling to my little heart’s content, so I decided to put my hair up in a HIGH sumo (wet) bun. I showed a pic to my friend and his response was, “Well, I’m indifferent, but I’d prefer you not walk out of the house like that.” Bless the chile for being honest. So what do you think? Would you rock it? It’s okay, you won’t hurt my feelings (because I’m most likely gonna wear it anyway, lol).

I love this style! And have definitely rocked it before when I had enough hair to do it… It’s so chic, slick, and pretty and it suits u so well since u have a great profile
:-). Bump what anyone says about this style, I love it.

  2. KW says:

Looks great! I think it would be best without the band. That hairstyle is in right now, especially the bun close to the front of your head with it slightly to the side.

Looks great! I think it’s best without the band. That hairstyle is very in right now, especially the bun placed close to the front of your head slightly to the side. FAB!

  4. LG says:

Cute! This is a very popular hairdo in Sweden. Check out how singer Lykke Li rocks it. I second the person who said you could add a flower under it, that would look really nice!

lol sure would I’m actually dying for next year to get a nice length to do one even though I love my short curly fro πŸ™‚

I live in central london and this hairstyle is very popular/trendy here. All types of buns (messy, slicked back, topknots) seem to be very ‘in’ at the moment. I think it looks great! πŸ™‚

    • HB says:

Oooh, that makes me feel cool haha….fashion across the pond is so much better than it is in the US. πŸ˜‰ Thanks Clarita!

Hi Elle! I think it’s super-cute! Like many other posts, the right outfit and accessories would make you a show-stopper πŸ™‚ Not sure if I could pull it off myself, but you rock it well.

  8. MyMamasChild says:

Elle, I think it looks great on you. You totally have the personality to rock this style. Your profile pic looks amazing. I can’t tell because it’s dark, but is that a headband that you are wearing?

  9. DurylKitten says:

I agree with the Ballerina depiction. I am not sure If I would wear it, and yes I do thing I would look prettier is it were more poofy…. I will try it and see how I like it when my hair gets longer… You could wear anything…. Rock it…Do You!!

    • HB says:

I dried it today (while still in the pony) and it’s bigger – but it’s SO HARD to pull my hair into any style once it’s dry it’s SO big!!!!

  10. Bronzebomb says:

Yep! Just centered with larger earrings…I’m wearing the same style right now! It’s regal.

  11. Kinky-Haired Nerd says:

Uh, yes ma’am I would! Especially since down here in Oklahoma we have been dealing with 100+ temperatures DAILY for the past month or so! I need my hurr up and outta my face. I’ve actually been doing high buns and pony-puffs but on dry stretched hair. I can get with the wet bunning because my hair stays wet for days when I do it and I can’t stand it! I think I have low porosity like you. *shrugs* Anyway, I think the bun is cute. Wear it girl!!!!

You can rock anything! I wouldn’t be so bold, but if you start the trend, I will jump on the bandwagon πŸ˜›

Yea, I was trying to make it bigger, but my hair was wet, so that wasn’t going to happen. I am going to let my hair out to air dry some today then pin it back up. Also, my hair isn’t straight so it wouldn’t look like that at all!

  14. Katie says:

It’s not so bad. With the right headband or some type of hair accessory, and outfit this would be a cool look.

I think just wearing it plain like that would be a no.

  15. pj joseph says:

I think its cute- and cool since it keeps the hair UP- and not in a heat retaining cloud around your face! Its going to above 90 degrees here today (NYC) so anything cool is….cool!

    • HB says:

Yes, exactly that! I haven’t been wearing my hair out a lot lately because when the sun shines down on me it’s like being in an oven.

Elle I don’t personally know you, but I check your blog just about everyday now since I’ve discovered it. Anyway, because of your personality that I’ve noticed through your postings and fierceness you exude, you can totally rock this hair style. I agree with the others, all you need is the right accessories (e.g. fabulous, big earrings) and NO flower. The flower just doesn’t seem to work with your personal style. And if you wanted this style to last another day or two open up the bun with it still high and let you hair free. Shoot you just gave me an idea. Thanks!

    • HB says:

Thank you! I do like flowers, but the only time I really wear them is when I am going for a beachy type look, so you’re right, I most likely wouldn’t rock a flower with this. To me, the style is kind of laid back and simple (with sort of an 80s vibe), so last night when I went grocery shopping I was wearing an oversized boyfriend sweater (it was like 60 degrees) with leggings, grey/white saddle shoes, huge earrings, and a long necklace. But again, that’s why I love LA – you can seriously wear whatever you want! I might have felt more uncomfortable wearing it in a more conservative city.

    • HB says:

OH, and I actually had my ponytail this high on my head and it reminded me of my “mohawk” type hairdo I used to have! I may rock that soon as well. πŸ™‚

  17. Happynappy2009 says:

Looks cute on u sis! But as for me and this big ole head of mine imma say no. Lol. Have a good day!

  18. SmellsLikeCupcakes says:

If my hair was as long as yours then heck yeah. If you are like me and take the train, its uncomfortable with your hair rubbing up against the train wall. I would also add an accessory.

  19. Chhabria says:

I really like it!!! I’d totally rock this style—-super cute and easy-breezy. πŸ˜‰ xo.

  20. Halibel says:

lmao! *slaps knee* I see you gettin your E.Honda from Street Fighter on, Elle.

I am indecisive on me wearing it. Looks cute on you, tho!

  21. Porsche says:

I wore my hair like this all the time when I was relaxed…now I’m waiting on my hair to grow out some more to wear it like that again. I love it!

  22. Shantrice says:

I’m with Sharyn…I’d definitely put a flower on it and that’s all it would need. Actually any accessory…(i.e. long or colorful earrings).

  23. Anonymous says:

I wear really high buns, even messy ones from time to time off to one side, but never right on the top of my head. πŸ™‚

    • HB says:

I like it up there…I was going for like a sumo/geisha type dealio. I just wish my hair was dry so it would be bigger!

      • Anonymous says:

The style is very cute, i wear my hair like that sometimes.

But no offense, this has got absolutely NOTHING to do with a sumo bun (doesn’t even look close to it) and even less a geisha bun (is there even such a thing as a geisha or even a sumo bun?).

Anyway, i’m no hater at all, just trying to set the record straight with the comparison.

      • HB says:

LOL…Google it. Usually people just call buns sum/geisha-like when it’s high on your head. It’s not meant to really be an accurate historical depiction. πŸ˜‰
