Please excuse my voice! I was watching UFC last night so it’s hoarse from me screaming, lol. This is a first impression review with my special scent tester guest (lol) for the Madam CJ Walker Beauty Culture Jamaican Black Castor & Murumuru Oils Twist, Lock & Seal Lotion and Defining Butter Creme, specifically. I’ve only used it once and like them both so far, but am not sure if they are worth the price for me. Both are available at Sephora.com and Sephora stores. They were both $26.
Jamaican Black Castor Oil & Murumuru Oils Twist, Lock, & Seal Lotion: Water, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Oimethicone, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, Maltodextrin/VP Copolymer, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*+, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin (Vegetable), Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Althaea Officinalis Root Extract, Urtica Dioica Leaf Extract, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Coconut Oil), Coco-Glucoside, Algin, Chitosan, Gellan Gum, Fragrance (Essential Oil Blend).
First Impressions: I didn’t like that it was so thick that it was difficult to get out of the bottle, but it went on my hair with a fair amount of slip and absorbed nicely. I could also tell that my hair had a bit less frizz when I got out of the shower.
Jamaican Black Castor Oil Defining Butter Creme: Water, Maltodextrin/VP Copolymer, Capric/Caprylic Triglycerides (Coconut Oil), Stearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin (Vegetable), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*+, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Glyceryl Caprylate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclotetrasiloxane, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Polyquaternium-7, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Urtica Dioica Leaf Extract, Tocopherol, Althaea Officinalis Root Extract, Dimethiconol, Glyceryl Undecylenate, Polyvinylpryrrolidone, Coco-Glucoside, Algin, Chitosan, Gellan Gum, Fragrance (Essential Oil Blend).
First Impressions: Interesting texture for a cream product and I liked how it decreased frizz without decreasing volume at the same time. It has a bit of hold but not too much, and dried without flaking.

Hey Elle,
I could’nt help but smiling to whole time I was watching the video, mainly because I have never seen you smile so much. Also, your hair and make-up looks fab, your curls are popping. I love it.
I don’t think I will be trying those products at that price. And it has silicones? Wow…
I must say that your friend is a cutie. You all make a great couple!
I agree – while I have a lot of respect for Sun Dial, I feel like they missed the mark on their ingredients, price, and marketing (some of it at least) for this line. Being at Sephora is an amazing opportunity for a black-owned, natural hair brand and they could have used it to stand out among other mainstream salon brands, especially since many of them are coming out with natural/curly lines now. And thank you! That’s my fave. 🙂
