Winky Lux Is the Whimsical Lipstick I Didn’t Know I Needed

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been adding more and more creamy lipsticks to my stash. I used to be a total MAC lipstick junkie, but got tired of my lipstick constantly wearing off when I went out and switched to liquid long-wear formulas. However, once winter hit I realized that the liquid lipstick life isn’t always sustainable. For one, they’re more drying, which isn’t that bad, but can pose a problem when the temps are below 20 degrees and it’s windy. No one wants that. Also, when I got sick (read: dehydrated) I needed a formula that would provide me with moisture, pigment, and would be easy to take off. When I have a fever I don’t have the strength to scrub off some of those strong formulas.

Enter Winky Lux Matte Lip Velour ($14) – with the absolutely adorable name and even more adorable packaging, these were definitely on my list. I was pleased that they were in the Octoly store and yay! – they accepted my order. I selected Latte, which is a nude medium brown. These types of shades are on my favorites list because they are wonderful for everyday wear, but you can also dress them up. On my skin tone, they aren’t too light or too vampy, and work in all seasons. And they usually have names that sound like food, which is always a plus for me. When I received my package, I not only got excited about my lipstick, but the swatch card was enough to satisfy a kid in a candy shop. Look at the other shades! So pretty. I also have my eye on Dirty Love, Meow, and Pippy.

The formula goes on smooth and creamy and is nicely pigmented – it goes on completely opaque. Of course, it is not smudge-proof, but still has some staying power. It dries down a bit to a smooth finish, slightly satin, definitely not glossy. I think a lipstick like this is amazing for me when I’m in the office and not constantly eating or drinking, but don’t want to worry about my lips getting dry during long meetings. If you’ve ever been in a meeting and started playing with your lips, you know what I mean.

I also knew that the shade looked familiar…so I decided to swatch it with my Bite Beauty Multistick in Honeywheat ($24, top swatch). Ta-da! The same shade for $10 less.

These lipsticks are also cruelty, paraben, and gluten free. Universe knows I don’t need more lipstick, but these are just super cute bullets of fun!
