I’ve been anticipating Beauty Bakerie’s release of their Cake Face concealers as soon as they announced it, so I was ecstatic when they moved up the launch. Immediately, I bought three shades as I wanted to try them in different way – Don’t Give a Frappe, Procaffeinating, and Love You Latte. Like everything I have from the brand, the packaging is absolutely adorable, and they have a very light vanilla scent to me. But how do they perform?

Before I start talking about performance, I’m going to be honest – I’m having a totally blah skin day and wasn’t even trying to wear makeup. Don’t mind this crazy close up of my face, by the way. I went out with the biff before I head out for my yoga training, and the bartender gave us the strongest Long Islands I’ve ever had in mahhhh lifffffe. So yea, my skin is thirsty today and I will be using my night cream tonight. I’ve had like 10 glasses of water today, but I digress.

I used my concealers a few different ways, Don’t Give A Frappe was best for under eye, although I could have gone a shade lighter to Mug Life. My girl, Curlykimmystar, had already let me know about the dry down time, so I was sure to apply and blend one eye at a time. She definitely wasn’t kidding – these babies dry down and set FAST. Like, in seconds. I used my Sigma F60 brush to blend it and that worked pretty well. Spraying the brush with my Smashbox Primer Water made blending a little easier as well because as it dries down, it becomes tough to move. You can see how matte it is compared to my NARS concealer, which I use in the shade Marron Glace.

I tried it with and without setting powder (Ben Nye, Covergirl, and MAC), but each time, I feel like my under eye area looked a bit dry. Buuuuut, I did the other side of my face with NARS and it looked pretty much the same, so blame it on the alcohol. It does fill in pores nicely. Another thing I noticed was that the formula is totally full coverage and very matte, which I’m not used to (I’m usually a powder foundation kind of makeup enthusiast), so it looked better blended in with a liquid foundation rather than my regular powders. When I tried my Laura Geller powder with it, I could clearly see the difference in my skin where the concealer ended, but maybe it’d look smoother if I blended more on the edges. I’ll have to try again to work around it, because liquid foundations stay on my nerves. I think I also may prefer using it under my foundation rather than on top, and it looks like that is what they recommend on the box, indicating that you should apply directly to clean skin.

Here are swatches of all the shades on my arm (DGAF, Procaff, Latte), plus NARS and WetnWild Nude For Thought (I used to use this on my eye lids but it’s kinda greasy).

The other two shades I decided to try on on eye lids – initially I wanted to use Procaffeinated as maybe a contour, but it dries so quickly that it was hard for me to blend it together well with my natural highlight. I’ll try it again later, though. I did apply a bit of Latte to my nose and I was surprised that it blended well with my NYX highlight powder. Both worked great as eyeshadow primers and the shadows I was playing with (Juvia’s Place Zulu palette) seemed to pop a bit more on my eye. As a concealer for under my brow, I’m going to have to use DGAF again because Latte (the bottom shade on my face swatch) looked kind of dirty even with a highlight over it. DGAF worked well and did a pretty good job covering up my brow hairs growing in (I’m growing/trying to thicken my brows).

I’m going to keep playing with it and see other ways I can use the shades that are darker, and hopefully my skin won’t be begging me for moisture. I can’t drink during my yoga trip anyway, so good thing! Also, I’m Nairing my face as I write this post, so that will probably change things.
