Revisiting the Cherry Lola Treatment

During summer, I tried the Cherry Lola Treatment, which is supposed to reduce frizz and define curls. I liked it a lot, even though it smelled like stir fry, but since BC’ing, I just hadn’t really thought of it. Also, I wasn’t sure about putting baking soda in my hair. Then, last week, I looked at my old post and decided to do it again. I’ve done the treatment about 3 times this past week, and I gotta say, damn! My hair loves this treatment, and really doesn’t have a problem with the protein in the yogurt or the baking soda.

I actually changed the formula a little bit – I used less baking soda and more amino acids. I also added a glob of my Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner to the mix. Oh, and the second time I did a DC after, but didn’t really see a difference in the results doing this. After treatment though, my hair seems much “clearer.” That’s the only word I can really use to describe it. It seems to smooth my hair cuticle and dramatically reduce my frizz/flyaways at the roots. My hair hasn’t gotten hard, but I am also sure to moisturize and condition like crazy. I read about some people experiencing their curl being loosened with this treatment, but I haven’t gotten any results like that really….if it has loosened my curl, it’s totally minimal and I really can’t see a difference. Anywho, just check out the pics.

On another random note…I think my hair is getting darker…Not sure what it is, I would say it’s my oil (it has henna and amla in it), but I’ve only been using it for a week? I dunno, weird…I’d like for summer to come now so I can get my natural highlights back!

The Cherry Lola Treatment

Soooo…I found this strange, yet fascinating, hair treatment during all my research. It’s called the Cherry Lola Treatment, and it’s supposed to make your hair less frizzy and your curls more defined….Word? We’ll see. The ingredients are a little funky, but who am I to turn down the funk? I am a WildChild after all. Anyway, here’s how you get it poppin’:

16 oz of plain yogurt (I used the kind with whole milk…I think fat is good for hair, but not WildChild)

2 tbsp of Bragg’s Amino Acids (you can find this at Whole Foods by the soy sauce. Yes, it does smell/look like soy sauce. Hmm)

2 tbsp of Baking Soda (I got the 365 kind, but Arm and Hammer is fine too)

When all this stuff is mixed, I think it smells like stir fry and Play-Doh. Ugh, but whatever. The baking soda makes the concoction foam up into a kind of moussey type formula. I started slathering it in my hair, oh joy….okay, first of all, I’d like to say that I don’t like putting stuff that has been in the fridge in my hair. I dunno, I feel like I’m freezing it, but usually it’s fine once whatever I have in there is washed out. I tried to completely saturate my (dry) hair and ended up using only half of the mixture. What can I say, I have no hair, lol. If your hair is longer you will use much, much more. I massaged it around…then waited. Cherry Lola recommends you leave it on for like, 20-40 minutes. I have shit to do, so I’m clockin’ it in around 25 minutes.

Treatment 2

After I washed it out…coming up in a sec….Okay, I’m back. I washed out the Cherry Lola mixture and CO washed (sorry, I’m not gonna have my hair smelling like that). Initial thoughts? Hmm…not sure what’s going on, but my hair felt a lot softer after conditioning than it usually does with the Suave Naturals. I mean, not that it’s not usually soft, but there was a noticeable difference. So far, so good. The ultimate test? My styling, because for real, I’m not going to waste my Curling Custard just to go to sleep, especially when I never know how my hair is going to look in the morning and I might have to start over. So, I go to a product that I rarely use because I think it makes my hair frizzy–the Curls Goddess Glaze (sorry Curls). I use a little more Suave as my leave in and rub in the GG. ALSO, yea, I know, not the best way to test a treatment, but I also had to go to the gym. I bobby pinned my little curly front to the side and hop down to the gym. See, this is why I can’t belong to a real gym. Because I go looking like a hot mess. I work out for about an hour and go back to my apt, unpin my hair and add a bit of my DevaCurl Set It Free (yummy Skittles smells), scrunch a little. I need to let it air dry a little more, but it definitely doesn’t seem to be frizzing up like it usually does. Not sure if you can exactly tell in the pics, but there is significantly less frizz than I usually have with the same routine, and this is WITH working out. It looks like the curls prettier in the back too. I like this treatment…I’ll do it again later this week and use the rest of my mixture. Thanks, Cherry Lola!

For comparison, this is my post on Curls Goddess Glaze AND that time I had layered it with KCCC. It was the only gel I used this time. Yay!
