500 Calorie Fast: Day Three

Note: I eat a ketogenic diet, so the foods I post will be higher in fat and lower in carbs. I do not recommend eating high fat if you are also eating high carb.

Okay, so I will say that the scale is not the most accurate measurement of health, but I know that’s the main thing people focus on to see progress – since yesterday, I’ve lost a 1.5lbs. That’s pretty damn good, and I also like that I still am eating food doing it.

I remembered that I made some ham salad a few days ago that I know K isn’t going to eat (lol), so now it’s my mission to use it up. Ham salad day!

Breakfast: Ham salad on 1/2 a Mikey’s english muffin – 54 calories for the ham, 20 calories for the mayo (guessing but the whole bowl basically has 1.5 tbsps and I had already eaten some), 50 calories for the EM. Total – 124 calories. I also had another big glass of coffee and a cup of water. I’m ready to go!

Lunch: More ham salad, lol. Bigger portion this time and I mixed some romaine lettuce to make a ham salad salad. Say that five times fast. Ham – 180 calories, Mayo – 40 calories, Romaine – 9 calories, totaling at 229 calories. All with a tall glass of water. P.S. I also add dill relish to my ham and tuna salads, but it clocks in at no calories and I honestly have no idea how much I put in this mix.

Snack: A small handful of spicy pork rinds. These are Lee’s – DO NOT get them. I’m trying to eat them up but they have MSG and I don’t eff with MSG usually…but…I bought these and vodka was involved so I didn’t read the ingredients. – 48 calories. Also, more water.

Dinner: Ham salad (I told y’all I was finishing it, lol), a much smaller portion than lunch. Ham – 90 calories, Mayo – 20 calories, Romaine – 5 calories. Total – 115 calories.

Whatever hunger I felt yesterday has basically subsided today, which is something I find consistent with fasting. After a few days, your body adjusts. Note, our bodies have a pretty large storage for fuel (also consider that I am fat adapted and in nutritional ketosis, so my body has fat readily available for energy), so water is the most important thing. No one is going to drop dead from fasting, even with zero food, for a few days. On a macros note, because I ate ham salad basically all day today, my fat was higher and my protein was lower, but like I said, I refused to waste it! My total calories today ended up being 516.

I’m not sure whether I will stop the fast tomorrow or on Saturday, I’m still deciding. Either way, I will be sure to write a wrap-up for everyone.

xoxo

500 Calorie Fast: Day Two

Note: I eat a ketogenic diet, so the foods I post will be higher in fat and lower in carbs. I do not recommend eating high fat if you are also eating high carb.

Whew, here we go! Day two of my fast. I was solid last night…until it was like 1am and I couldn’t sleep (this isn’t b/c of the fast, I often have too much energy at night) and started STARVING. So…I had 8 pickle chips, which apparently has zero cals. Eh. Okay, onto day two.

I ate at 8:30am because my dinner was so early yesterday and well, I wanted some food. Fasting is great, but I don’t believe in starving when you are truly hungry. I just ate my other wing and made another little cold cut 1/2 wrap. Here’s the breakdown:

Breakfast: 1 Wingstop Louisiana Rub wing (my last one, ’til next time my friend!) – 65 calories, Vito Unwich (guessing again but I only used a little ham) – 55 calories, 1/2 coconut wrap – 35 calories. Total – 155 calories. I also drank a huge glass (yes glass, not cup lol) of coffee.

Around noon, K cooked some bacon. Bacon doesn’t stand a chance against me. But to keep cals low, I only ate 2 pieces. Note, I really like the Pederson’s bacon, which is sugar-free and uncured. It also works for those of you doing Whole30.

Lunch: 2 pieces of bacon – 60 calories, 1/2 Mikey’s English Muffin – 50 calories. Total – 110 calories. I also had a tall glass of tea and the rest of my can of Zevia.

I drank several glasses of water over the next few hours – I felt more thirsty than anything. Oh, I also had a few more pickles (also 0 cals) and a seaweed snack (30 cals)

Dinner: Milton’s Local Uncured Bacon Sausage (these are some of the best sausages ever) – 210 calories with French’s Super Yellow Mustard (mustard is bae on keto) – 0 calories

Total Calories: 505

Oh, in terms of weight loss in you’re interested, I didn’t weigh myself yesterday so I can’t comment on it until tomorrow, but I feel like my abs are trying to say hi. Or I could be delusional. 🙂

500 Calorie Fast: Day One

Note: I eat a ketogenic diet, so the foods I post will be higher in fat and lower in carbs. I do not recommend eating high fat if you are also eating high carb.

It’s that time again! I love periodically doing fasts and I thought it would be the perfect time to do so before my friend’s wedding. I’m definitely going to get Cosmic Cantina in NC on the way home that I will count as a carb refeed day (a principle in cyclical keto – UPDATE, I no longer want to do this after doing more research on carb ups, so I’m getting a salad instead lol), so I want to get off a more few pounds before I do so. Personally, I don’t find eating 500 cals a day that difficult if you cut out snacking, so I’m not anticipating that this will be that difficult. Here’s my food breakdown. Keep in mind that I follow a ketogenic way of eating, so I already do low carb. I must say, with higher fat it may be a little more difficult to keep calories so low, but we shall see.

Day One

Breakfast/Lunch: Bob Evans sausage patty & Mikey’s English Muffin (keto, 1g carb), tall glass of black tea (about 16oz) – 179 cals

Snack: 1 Louisiana Rub wing from Wingstop (I had these leftover) – 65 cals

So I’m already at half of my calories for the day – you know what that means? No other snacking! It’s important to keep drinking water and other non-caloric beverages while fasting, so I’ll be sipping on Zevia Cream Soda, tea, and good ol’ H2O.

Snack: I forgot I had seaweed snacks! These are only 30 cals a pack so I ate one.

Dinner: So I was planning on eating a turkey wrap with my coconut meat “bread” for dinner, but of course my mom was on her way home from Chester and brought me DiCostanza! I let her keep the bread, but I put the deli meat from the italian sub in my wrap instead. Unfortunately, I had to guesstimate the cals but it was a fourth of a their sub and I didn’t use all of the meat, so I used .3 of a Vito Unwich from Jimmy John’s for my cals. It was approximately 179 calories.

I ate that a little after 5pm. And that’s it, that’s all I can eat today!! It doesn’t seem like much, but I mean, it IS a fast. As for how I feel? I don’t feel actually hungry, but I have a huge tendency to eat when I’m bored or around the house, so that was a little difficult to overcome. Doable, though.

My total calories for the day came out to 453. Normally, I would eat something small to ensure I’m closer to 500, but since I couldn’t exactly count my dinner, I’m going to let it go for some wiggle room.

Water and tea for the rest of the day! Have you ever done a 500-calorie fast?
