First of all, I don’t even know why I have this Finishing Paste. I bought it on a whim in Atlanta because I wanted something to help combat frizz in the high humidity. For the most part, it’s just been sitting in my cabinet. And why? I mean…have you seen the ingredients? Ew. Here they are.

Aqua (Water), Cetearyl Alcohol, Elaeis Oleifera (Palm) Oil, Dimethicone Copolyol, Caprylic/ Capric Triglyceride, Pvp/Va Copolymer, Tribehenin, Polysorbate 60, Dimethicone, Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum (Fragrance), Imidazolidinyl Urea, Mica, Methylparaben, Titanium Dioxide, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Peg-150 Stearate, Steareth-20, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Althaea Officinalis Root Extract, Bambusa Vulgaris Extract, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Extract, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Propylparaben, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Lecithin, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Citric Acid.

To start off, the ingredients that are bolded are ones that are of concern. Parabens are linked to cancer and urea is linked to dermatitis. Furthermore, propylene glycol is found in anti-freeze, airplane de-icer, and brake/hydraulic fluid. It’s supposed to help give “slip” to cosmetic ingredients. Phenoxyethanol is another preservative that is under the cancer category. Polysorbate 60 is a common ingredient in lube (yea, that “special” lube). Pvp/copolymer is derived from petroleum and considered toxic. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you know that cones don’t actually provide moisture to hair, they simply coat the hair shaft and are difficult to wash out, often causing product buildup. Why the hell is all that crap in a hair product?

The italicized ingredients are the “good” ones. Yes, there are many extracts and proteins in this product, but I feel as if the bad outweighs the good, especially for the price of this crap. It’s $25 for 3.36oz. Are you kidding me? Looks to me like Ojon took good stuff, but filled it with preservatives and chemicals (some of those I don’t even know wth they are) to give their product a longer shelf life (great for sitting on a shelves in Sephora and beauty supply stores) and allow it to coat the hair more (I’m guessing to help with frizzies and molding).

And the performance? I won’t lie, I’d be disingenuous if I said that this product totally sucks, which is really what I want to say. However, I have been having some issues with frizz as my hair grows out. I applied this over my gel, and it took the frizzies right out. On the other hand, my hair feels very producty to the point where I might co wash again after doing an ACV rinse. In short? If I was having trouble with frizz and needed an instant fix, I guess I could use this (hah, it is small enough to fit in my purse). But I would NOT go to Sephora and drop $25 for it, no way, no how. I have a feeling I wouldn’t have even touched this stuff if I wasn’t at home and knew I could do my hair again – I have plenty of gels I could have double layered to get rid of frizz.

Honestly, I can’t believe Ojon charges $25 for this stuff. Sometimes, I get annoyed at spending so much money on hair products, but at least most of them are all natural, and definitely aren’t boasting ingredients like that. No wonder they don’t list the ingredients on their site. A huge side eye to them.
